ERMIS Africa is a non-profit making local NGO based in Nakuru, Kenya.
The organization was founded in 1999 and legally registered in 2004. It's core activity is Community Mapping/PGIS.
Since its establishment, ERMIS Africa has grown immensely and has attained international recognition through its proved competence in handling international responsibilities as reflected in the organization's profile.
ERMIS Africa has a regional mandate to share knowledge, ideas, experiences, skills and strategies on PGIS and community mapping among development practitioners and local resource dependant communities. ERMIS Africa operates in the Eastern, Central and Southern Africa Regions. This region covers 13 countries namely:

ERMIS Africa works with development practitioners and local resource dependant communities willing to integrate PGIS practice in building their capacities so as to secure their territorial claims, positive intangible culture and commonly shared resources for development and sustainable livelihoods.
In an effort to achieve its Vision and Mission as well as serve the region effectively, ERMIS Africa has established the Community Mapping Network - East and Central Africa CMN-EA to enable PGIS practitioners and local communities within the region share ideas, skills, experiences and strategies on community mapping.
Other programs established by ERMIS Africa are the Regional PGIS/Community Mapping Centre, an online/offline information dissemination point, training and education and Local PGIS initiatives Support programs.
