Educational Background
BS in sociology and economics at London U. Graduate studies: Geography MA in from Columbia U. (thesis on East Africa, Wildlife conservation), post grad Diploma, International Institute, Aerial Survey Netherlands (thesis on Tunisia, vegetation), geography PhD from McGill U. (thesis on conflict between Inuit hunters and the global conservation community).

Professional Experience
Since 1978, free-lance project with land-based communities, in either a training or project coordination role, in the areas of community-based resource utilization, environmental impact assessment, protected areas and biodiversity conservation. Over the last 15 years, a more specific focus upon capacity-building in community mapping and acquisition of site-specific high resolution aerial imagery for community applications - in Colombia, Ecuador, Suriname, Arctic Canada and most recently coverage of damage from catastrophic floods of late 2004. Current projects include training in aerial environmental surveying for indigenous pilots graduating from the First Nations Aviation School, Mohawk Tyendinaga Territory, Ontario, Canada, Co-director of Local Earth Observation, Amsterdam-based NGO focused upon to community-based training in the gathering, mapping and application of traditional and environmental data.
