Training on “Community Mapping for Carbon Forestry”: An approach to National REDD System ERMIS Africa in collaboration with Yiaku People Association (YPA) and SHALIN ry will be conducting a training on “Community Carbon Forestry Mapping” in Mukogodo Forest from 9-14th November, 2009 and a Follow-up Dissemination Workshop. The venue will be at Doldol town on fridges of Mukogodo Forest, 67 Kilometers from Nanyuki Town
The training on “Community Carbon Forestry Mapping” will be hosted by YPA and technically facilitated by ERMIS Africa through Financial Support from the SHALIN ry under a grant from the Finnish Foreign Ministry.
The training will focus on: 1. Review of Community Mapping Technologies and Approaches (synopsis of 10 years (1999-2009) of ERMIS Africa experience in community mapping approaches with local and indigenous Peoples Communities. Experiences are drawn to about 10 community mapping project supported financially SARDEP-Dutch-Govt, GTZ-IS, ESAPP-CDE- Switzerland, CTA-Netherlands, IPACC-South Africa , Rainforest Foundation-UK, SHALIN-Finnish Foreign Ministry) 2. Field-based Training on Community Carbon Forestry Mapping Technologies and Approaches towards a piloting a local REDD System: a. Community Identification of factors, drivers and indicators of Deforestation and Forest Degradation b. Community Measurements of C-Pools (P-GIS) c. Community Analysis of C-stocks (TEK based) d. Community REDD Reporting (P-video) e. Options for linking local and national REDD Verification through Meso-level
