ERMIS-Africa, the Secretariat of JUMP Initiative, was conceived in 1999 and legally registered in 2004 in to respond to the emerging need to devolve Spatial Information Technologies to levels where local communities and development practitioners can access, understand, utilize and share the resultant information and knowledge products and services to their gain. Since inception ERMIS has been spurred by the emergence of an information economy that calls for a versatile information society that is increasingly built-up, liberated, nourished and expanded in its information sharing capacities.
This call is at the heart of ERMIS Africa vision.
